The sweetest sound
With 25 days, 22 hours and approximately 5 minutes until that beautiful moment when the first kickoff occurs, the blood is just racing through my veins as I can hardly stand the anticipation. Michigan football had a rather sour season last year and during college football season, the highs and lows of my life for that 5 month period of time ride on the success our trusty maize and blue. About 8 months ago, I felt that Michigan had reached the absolute depths of despair by reaching the nadir of college football after losing two consecutive rose bowls and making their first appearance outside the top 25 of the final polls since 1984. This is the also the first time in the past nine seasons that Michigan will enter the season outside the top 10 of the national polls.
Tragic, isn't it? However, I am not one to lose hope based on a bunch of statistics and a catastrophically bad year. There is one sweet sound, one that surpasses every other sound in college sports. It is the sound that keeps me grounded in my unwavering belief in the winningest team in college football (849 wins, 280 losses and 36 ties).
Hail to the Victors. The best college fight song.
"With a minute remaining and Michigan up by three, the Buckeyes are marching down the field and threatening to score when Leon Hall intercepts a Troy Smith pass and returns it for a touchdown, sealing the victory. At that point, the Michigan fighting band could play Livin' la Vida Loca and, as Morgan Freeman said in Shawshank Redemption, it would sound "so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. it would sound like the greatest piece of music you've ever heard."
