Paddy’s Day Parade - The city centre streets are closed to traffic for a parade that draws over 700,000 people. The parade takes place for two hours, where international and Irish marching bands join performers, dancers and street theatre companies to present a wonderfully entertaining parade. Colourful costumes, flamboyant performances and outstanding musical talent will be on show. Bring your camera, there will be amazing sights to capture.

Ceili Mor - Ceili means a gathering with music, song, dancing, and participation by all attendees. So, do not let inexperience stop you, as you will be shown what to do. Lots of people are very surprised at how quickly they pick up the necessities. From 2.30 to 5:30pm on St. Patrick's Day, the sound of traffic around the City Centre will be diminished, and a more cultural beat will dominate, as thousands of tapping feet (and clapping hands) give all they have to Irish Dancing. Ceilis feature a range of structured dances such as round dances, line dances, and progressive line dances performed in groups of varied numbers.

Fun Fair and Street Performances - Seek out your inner child, grab a stick of rock or some candy floss and relive your schooldays on one of the Festival Funfair's magic rides. Scream your lungs out on the Miami Drop Zone or grab a birds' eye view of Dublin city from the top of the Ferris Wheel. St. Patrick's Festival presents Birds 'Euro Show' fun-fair the largest traveling fun-fair show in Ireland. Come and experience Ireland's largest Ferris wheel, standing over 150 feet high, take a spin on Ireland's largest dodgems. New to 2006 is the exciting spectacular popular with all the family, the Hollywood fun house. Tickets for the rides are priced from €1.50 - €3.00. Choirs, comedians, international street theatre, acrobats, samba and salsa bands will perform in busy shopping areas throughout the city. Thousands will be entertained by these quirky and entertaining performances during each day of the festival. Street theatre to animate the centre of Dublin, small 1/2 hour performances or wandering players seeking audiences up to 200 at a time.

Circus in Merrion Square ParkThe Circus will transform Dublin's most beautiful Georgian Square into a bold, bright and colourful outdoor circus with jugglers, trapeze acts, puppetry, music, dance and walkabout performers. The infamous Fanzini brothers will perform a side-splitting interactive comedy showpiece comprising a skilful display of circus skills. You won't go hungry with the clowning chefs serving free hot dogs at the Denny BBQ. Watch out for Gran Familia - a giant sized family having their day out at the Denny Big Day Out!! Get your face painted, participate in one of the many creative workshops, listen to the music and envelope yourself in a day to tickle all your senses. Take a ride on the Big Wheel at the Funfair and see the city dancing at the circus below your feet!!

The one with the hyperlinks

Two things:

First, I'm off with this guy and this other kid to Nomadfest Ireland. We have yet to receive confirmation from her. Tickets have been purchased and St. Patty's day will be spent in the Emerald Isle.

Secondly, pictures from this guy's 21st birthday. It was a magical weekend.

Upon revisiting my undergrad, I realized just how much I missed having a social life. I mean, I have a social life now, but there are just some things you miss (i.e. walking around campus with a cooler full of wop) and sometimes there's no place like home. Just a daunting realization of "growing up" and how mucah a far cry graduate school is from undergrad. Perhaps it's because I'm constantly surrounded by "adult" activities, i.e. studying (which I'm fine with, but sometimes it's just overwhelming how much work I do), older people (my roommates are 25), marriage (not only are my roommates on the brink of engagement, but a considerable proportion of grad school has already tied the knot), pending career decisions, fiscal responsibility and the entire notion of simply getting older.

I just want to make sure I'm getting around to doing everything that will make me happy. Granted life isn't always picture-perfect, but certain aspects of my life are certainly....incomplete? Maybe that's why I've been making impulsive, spontaneous (a recurring theme in my blog lately) decisions and trying to soak in things I feel like I missed out while in college (i.e. traveling). Life is fine, really. Sometimes it just comes at me at blazing speed.
